desperately seeking other mothers
so my search for moms near me.... when the girls were six months and no longer cried every time i put them in the car seat, we signed up for a sign language class (sign, say, & play) at isis maternity. it was a good class, but at six weeks, too short to really get to know the other moms. plus, i took someone with me to each class because i wasn't sure i could manage them both (although managing both has turned out to be easier alone, often). undeterred and happy to have an outside-the-house activitity, we signed up for movers and groovers. there are more moms and we meet until december 13 (fifteen weeks), and the girls seem to enjoy it. we generally go to lunch with a few other moms beforehand (last time the restaurant ran out of high chairs). but it's still not the type of mom lovefest i expected. i'm realizing how other moms parent really affects how much i want to be friends with them. more on that later.
so we also drop-in to a playgroup at isis on friday. there i met a mom who came over with her daughter yesterday. that was fun and a little less stressful than meeting moms online through matchingmoms.org, which i've also done. there you enter your zip code and complete a brief profile (you can choose between bowling and breastfeeding as interests). i got in touch with a mom who also selected breastfeeding; she lives a few blocks away, so we've been on some walks and had a playdate. she seems cool, but it's hard to coordinate three babies' nap "schedules."
